Arbre de silence est lemonologue d’une
femme en quête d’un fruit, d’un arbre, nés du
silence. Le texte évoque lesmots, les conversations,
l’histoire de ceux que le silence a
hantés.Un personnage, à la recherche d’un
arbre de silence qui ne peut être ni regardé ni
écouté, se détache etmurmure une incantation
sur la gamme de quatre notes entendue
dans la pièce posthume de Toru Takemitsu
pour flûte, Air, et continue son voyage. Si
cetteoeuvre possède un certain éclat, c’est
avant tout grâce au talent de comédienne et
de chanteuse d’EliseCaron,muse inspirée
de Luc Ferrari.

d'un arbre, nous ne le touchons jamais pour
sentir sa solidité, la rugosité de son écorce, pour
écouter le bruit qui lui est propre. Non pas le
bruit du vent dans les feuilles, ni la brise du
matin qui les fait bruire, mais un son propre, le
son du tronc, et le son silencieux des racines. il
faut être extrêmement sensible pour entendre ce
son. Ce n'est pas le bruit du monde, du bavardage
de la pensée, ni celui des querelles humaines
et des guerres, mais le son propre de l'univers”.

Tree of Silence is themonolog of awoman in
search of the fruitwhose seed is silence. The
text evokes thewords, conversations and stories
of thosewhomsilence has haunted. A personage
in search of this tree that can neither be seen
nor heard, detaches himself fromthe others and
murmurs an incantation on a scale of four notes
heard in Air, Toru Takemitsu’s posthumous
piece for flute, and then he continues his journey.
If thiswork possesses a certain brilliance it is
thanks to the talent of the actress and singer
EliseCaron, Luc Ferrari’s inspiredmuse.

we never really touch it, feel its solidity, its rough
bark, and hear the sound that is part of the tree.
Not the sound of wind through the leaves, not
the breeze of a morning that flutters the leaves,
but its own sound, the sound of the trunk and the

sensitive to hear the sound. This sound is
not the noise of the world, not the noise of the
chattering of the mind, not the vulgarity of
human quarrels and human warfare but sound
