Dédié à Luc Ferrari. [Commande de l’Ina-GRM]
“Mahoroba” est un mot du japonais ancien
qui signifie ‘illusion’, ‘utopie’ et qui, par extension,
désigne un endroit splendide.Quand
j’ai entrepris ce travail, je n’avais qu’une
vague idée de ce que je voulais faire. Je
savais seulement que je voulais créer
quelque chose qui ait véritablement un sens.
Je voulais créer une sorte de “jardin sonore”,
un jardin à la fois acousmatique et imaginaire
qui provoquerait des réactions en chaîne
chez l’auditeur et agirait ainsi comme
“catalyseur de mémoire”. L’auditeur se promène
dans ce jardin en perpétuel mouvement,
qui semble sans cesse différent.C’est
un “endroit splendide” où j’aimerais que le
promeneur s’arrête.

Dedicated to Luc Ferrari. [Commissioned by
Ina-GRM]. ‘Mahoroba’ is an ancient Japanese
word for ‘illusion’, ‘utopia’; by extension it designates
a splendid place.When I began this
work I had only a vague idea of what I wanted to
do. I knew only that I wanted to create something
that was trulymeaningful. I wanted to
create a kind of ‘sound garden’, a garden both
acousmatic and imaginary which would provoke
a chain reaction in the listener and act as a
‘memory catalyser’. The listener walks in this
garden in perpetualmovement, always changing
and it is in this ‘splendid place’ that I hope
he will pause.

death during the Futura Festival 2005 in Crest.

Recorded in the studio of the Osaka University of Arts.
Realized in composer’s home studio in Nara.

the GRM acousmonium on March 25, 2006 in the
Auditorium Olivier Messiaen, Radio France, Paris.
